The EC-Turkey Associate Trade Agreement (ATR) is a special agreement that applies mainly to industrial goods. It removes Customs Duty on goods which arrive from Turkey into the UK under the current EU ATR scheme (and vice versa). To qualify, the goods can be of any origin, but they must be in free circulation, meaning imported into Turkey/UK and all duties paid.

Made for military purpose but later used for civilian purpose

We are based in Germany and plan to combine two of our existing products into one through a minor modification. This new product is then intended to become a part of the driving control system of an Indian tank. In my view, this new product is in line with items that have been constructed or modified for military purposes under the German export control list. But it can also be used for civilian purposes – would we still need to request an export license in that case?

I would recommend to first contact the authorities to confirm that your new product is indeed considered to have been modified for military purposes. It depends on the extent of modifications and for some goods that were subject to insignificant changes, export license may not be required at all. If it is indeed the case, however, and your product really falls under military goods classifications, then yes, you will need to request an export license – even if it is also used for civilian purposes in line with dual-use regulations. And by the way – also civilian goods with military end-use purpose would require a license.

It’s wise to spend time researching the market online for your export in various countries and areas before you leap. With so many websites now online that allow you to sell your products, why not consider listing your products? Register an account and add your products to these sites and see if you place any orders. You can be more confident about your product’s demand in that country or area if you do. If you take this approach, it’s worth spending some time studying the best practices for listing your products so that you can take full advantage. For example, make sure photos of your products are well lit and show enough detail. Take pictures from various angles so potential buyers can see all of the product and consider even developing a short promo video.

Google and Facebook ads are good ways to advertise your products. You can place online ads to reach your target audience to get quality leads for your products online. You’ll get plenty of wholesalers that you can contact and see if you can generate any interest in your products.

This is more of an old school approach but still relevant. National embassies want to promote trade between their country and the world and help create these links. Contacting the commercial section of a country’s embassy and asking if they can provide you with a list of your export product’s wholesalers is well worth doing.

Chambers of Commerce (e.g., the British Chamber of Commerce) are another excellent resource to contact, much like national embassies. They can offer advice and help and often support businesses by providing training so that they can push you in the right direction.

You may also join different International Trade Facebook Groups where you will match up buyers and sellers worldwide and answer any questions on international trade and any tips or discussion. Good luck!

Along with animal by-products such as wool and animal hides, honey is classified as a 'non-prescribed good' under Australian export control legislation, which means that there is no Australian restriction on its export.

In some cases, the country that you are exporting to requires certification from the Australian Government, which can be obtained from the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources. It is important that you confirm with your overseas customer whether this is required in their country.
